Season's greetings message
Welcome to 2024
Dear member of an EFP national society, dear friend,
As the end of 2023 approaches, it is time for me to share with you the EFP’s traditional season’s greetings message, to wish you and your loved ones happy holidays, a fruitful and successful New Year, full of great experiences and achievements. On behalf of the EFP’s 38 member societies, and its 16,000+ members and growing who are the heart and the backbone of our federation, let us look back at 2023, and start preparing for an exciting 2024.
This year, we’ve had a lot of action at the EFP. Perio Master Clinic 2023, held in March in Antwerp, Belgium, explored the synergies between periodontology and orthodontics. In May, International Perio Master Clinic 2023 in León, Mexico revisited the aesthetic reconstructions around teeth and implants, whereas Gum Health Day 2023 reminded us that healthy gums look good on all of us. In June, the JCP published the new S3-level clinical practice guideline on the treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.
Other major EFP milestones were the Perio & Family Doctors campaign launched in October, and our scientific meeting Perio Workshop 2023 held in November in La Granja, Spain, shaping the future of education on periodontology for the coming years.
For 2024, you should consider saving a few dates. In January, another instalment of International Perio Master Clinic, this time in Singapore, will bring to Asia the best science available in the world on the perio-ortho synergy. In May, Gum Health Day 2024 will raise awareness of the importance of gum health and gum disease, whereas the JCP will publish a consensus report from Perio Workshop 2023 experts. In September, the EFP Postgraduate Symposium will gather in Heerlickheijd van Ermelo, Netherlands with teachers and students from all 23 EFP-accredited postgrad perio programmes. In November, Perio Workshop 2024 will bring together the best periodontal scientists to discuss periodontal diagnosis, through the lens of the latest advances in knowledge and technology.
We will keep working hard to make sure that our congress EuroPerio11, due in May 2025 in Vienna, Austria, will be a groundbreaking success. Personally, I’ll be delighted to host the EFP’s annual general assembly next April in my hometown Zagreb, Croatia, where I look forward to the opportunity to personally meet many of you.
Welcome to 2024!
Darko Bozic
EFP president
