Categories:Events, Institutional
The deadline to submit your work for the Jaccard-EFP Research Prize is 1 September 2024. Note the date in your agendas and prepare to send in your research before then.
The Jaccard-EFP Prize is a prestigious award in periodontal research, offering a remarkable opportunity for oral health professionals to showcase their innovative work. Founded in 1995 by the European Federation of Periodontology and the Jaccard Foundation (University of Geneva), this prize aims to propel groundbreaking research within Europe. The next award ceremony will be held at EuroPerio11.
"The EFP invites submissions for the next edition of this prestigious award,” said Andreas Stavropoulos, chair of the scientific affairs committee. “We are looking out for research that has significant clinical implications for the practice of periodontology. Originality and innovation are important. We welcome hypotheses that challenge current thinking and suggest new approaches. High scientific quality is essential, including a robust experimental design, quality data, and rigorous methodology."
The competition follows a three-step process. Researchers begin by submitting a manuscript to the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. Manuscripts accepted for publication are then shortlisted by a committee for an oral presentation at EuroPerio11. Ultimately, the top three presentations are awarded prizes based on the merit and presentation quality of the research.
The prizeis open exclusively to members of full EFP member societies, with a special emphasis on encouraging junior and mid-career investigators to participate.
Originality is paramount for submissions. Research must be unpublished and prepared in accordance with the Journal of Clinical Periodontology guidelines. Manuscripts should be submitted online by 1 September 2024, with the cover letter indicating the intent to compete for the Jaccard-EFP Research Prize. Proof of successful completion of the editorial screening must be emailed to the EFP European Coordinator (monica@efp.org).
A panel of five adjudicators, including the journal’s editor-in-chief and members of the EFP and EuroPerio11 organising committee, will conduct a rigorous and impartial assessment of submissions. Finalists will be invited to present their work at EuroPerio11 in Vienna (14-17 May 2025), with free registration and a travel grant of 500 Euros.
The Jaccard-EFP Research Prize amounts are substantial, with CHF 10,000 for first place, CHF 6,000 for second place, and CHF 4,000 for third place. Awards will be based on the quality of the manuscript, the oral presentation, and the ensuing discussion. Evaluation will focus on the research's significance, innovation, scientific quality, and the clarity and effectiveness of the oral presentation.
With the submission deadline rapidly approaching, we urge oral health professionals to seize the moment. Your research could have a profound impact on the field and gain international acclaim. Submit your work by 1 September 2024!
