Authors of JCP paper on periodontitis/Covid-19 associations discuss findings in next EFP Perio Talks
Categories:Communication, Science, Covid-19
The next EFP Perio Talks will feature two of the authors of the research published earlier this month in the JCP showing associations between periodontal disease and Covid-19 complications.
Faleh Tamimi Marino (College of Dental Medicine, QU Health, Qatar university, Doha, Qatar) and Belinda Nicolau (Faculty of Dentistry, McGill University, Montreal, Canada) will discuss “Periodontitis linked to Covid-19 complications” on Tuesday 23 February at 15.00 (CET) in a live Perio Talks session on the EFP’s Instagram page (@perioeurope).
They are two of the authors of a case-control study of 568 patients in Qatar which found that Covid-19 patients with periodontitis were 3.5 times more likely to be admitted to intensive care, 4.5 times more likely to need a ventilator, and almost nine times more likely to die compared to those without the gum disease.
