Call for submissions: EFP Digital Innovation Award 2025
Categories:Communication, Institutional
As digital technology continues to transform healthcare, the EFP—supported by Haleon—opens submissions for the EFP Digital Innovation Award 2025, spotlighting cutting-edge solutions that drive forward gum health on a global scale.
This prestigious annual award recognises innovators who harness digital tools to improve gum health and awareness. The award categories are:
- Public innovation: Digital tools, like apps or devices, accessible to the public, aimed at promoting gum health and preventing gum disease. Entries should prioritise user-friendliness and prevention.
- Dentist innovation: Technologies tailored to dental professionals, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and gum health management.
- Research innovation: Digital advancements that elevate the quality and reach of periodontal research.
All members of EFP societies are welcome to apply, though previous winners and those related to awarded projects should not reapply.
Andreas Stavropoulos, chair of the EFP Scientific Affairs Committee, calls on members: “Whether you’re a student, researcher, or dental professional, this award is your chance to showcase your idea about how digital innovation can promote gum health. Projects submitted in past years have been of exceptional quality, making it very challenging to select just three winners. If you submitted before and did not win, you’re welcome to submit your project again."
The three awards will be celebrated at EuroPerio11 in Vienna in May 2025. The winners in each category will be awarded certificates and cash prizes: €10,000 for first place, €6,000 for second, and €4,000 for third.
A panel of five expert adjudicators will assess submissions based on: the need addressed, market potential, idea clarity, and the strength of the business plan. The adjudicators will include the EFP Scientific Affairs Committee chair and deputy chair, the EFP Postgraduate Education Committee chair, the EFP Workshop Committee chair and a member of the EFP Executive Committee.
Each application should highlight how the innovation meets an unmet need in gum health, its advantages over existing solutions, and ideally include a prototype or published paper to enhance credibility. A well-defined business plan detailing production, market strategy, and pricing will be key in the selection process.
Heather Pelier, Global Expert Lead Oral Health at Haleon said “I am really excited to announce that the submissions window is open! We have had some incredible submissions over the last few years and it’s always fantastic to see such diverse entries that highlight how digital innovation is driving research, diagnostics, management and prevention to promote better oral healthcare. After some high-quality entries in 2024, we are looking forward to seeing the entries for 2025.”
Submissions, along with supporting materials, should be sent in PDF format to EFP European coordinator Monica Guinea at monica@efp.org by 31 March 2025.
