Deadline nears for EFP digital-innovation competition

The deadline for submissions for the EFP's new award for innovation in digital solutions for gum health is fast approaching.

Applicants for the EFP Innovation Award for Digital Solutions for Gum Health need to make their submissions by January 30.

The new annual prize, which is financially supported by GSK, is aimed at encouraging research and will reward digital innovation that will make a contributiton to gum health worldwide.

The digital solutions that would be eligible for the award can be made in one of three areas:

  • Innovation for the public, for the development of digital technology that improves periodontal health and prevents gum inflammation. This could be applications or devices that everybody can use, and which support the primary or secondary prevention of periodontitis.
  • Innovation for the dentist, for the development of digital technology that helps dentists in diagnosing or improving the gum health of their patients.
  • Innovation for periodontal researchers, for the development of new digital methods that will enhance the quality of studies about gum health.

Three prizes will be awarded – a first prize of €10,000, a second prize of €6,000, and a third prize of €4,000 – by a judging panel that comprises the chairs of the EFP’s scientific affairs, postgraduate education, and workshop committees, together with the deputy chair of the scientific affairs committee and a member of the executive committee.

Applications for the EFP Innovation Award for Digital Solutions for Gum Health will be evaluated according four criteria: the need, the market, the presentation of the idea, and the business plan. Applications should be sent to Mónica Guinea, EFP Co-ordinator (monica@efp.org).

The award is open to all members of EFP-affiliated national societies of periodontology and the winners will be announced at the 2022 EFP general assembly, due to be held in Tel Aviv, Israel, on March 26.
