The German Society of Periodontology (DG PARO) marked a century of advancements in oral health with a grand celebration from 19 to 21 September 2024 in Bonn. Led by Professor Søren Jepsen and Professor Henrik Dommisch, this milestone event brought together over 1,000 participants and more than 30 dental industry partners for an unforgettable experience.
The festivities kicked off with a master clinic on soft tissue surgery, captivating attendees with three hours of expert-led sessions. A novel conference format encouraged lively interaction, culminating in an inspiring afternoon where young professionals networked with the “giants of periodontology.” This unique collaboration with the ARPA Science Foundation and the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences proved a hit among attendees, sparking dialogue and mentorship opportunities.
The two-day main programme was no less impressive, featuring 21 expert national and international speakers exploring seven crucial “Interfaces of Periodontology.” These ranged from general medicine and ageing to implantology and cervical lesions. Attendees also engaged in symposia, scientific short lectures, poster presentations, and hands-on courses, making this a truly comprehensive learning experience.
The centenary’s social highlight was a spectacular gala at Godesburg: 100 years – 100 beats.
Set against the stunning backdrop of this historic venue, guests enjoyed an evening of networking, conversation, and live music.
Reflecting on the society’s centenary, Prof. Dr. Dommisch, President of DG PARO, said:
“For 100 years, DG PARO has been at the forefront of advancing periodontology, fostering collaboration, and inspiring innovation. This anniversary reminds us of our rich heritage while challenging us to push the boundaries of what’s possible for the next century."
