EFP president visits annual meeting of American Academy of Periodontology

EFP president Lior Shapira attended the annual meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) in Miami, USA, where he promoted EFP activities including EuroPerio10 and International Perio Master Clinic 2022.

He met the current and former AAP presidents – Christopher R. Richardson and James G. Wilson – along with other members of the organisation's board at its 107^th annual meeting, held from November 4 to 7.

The meeting was friendy and productive, with Prof Shapira describing the EFP’s structure and suggesting possible venues for future collaboration. 

Dr Richardson accepted the EFP president’s invitation to attend International Perio Master Clinic 2022 in León, Mexico in February next year.

“It is important to continue the collaboration between the world's two top perio organisations,” said Prof Shapira. “We will mutually promote scientific and educational initiatives and projects together.”

Both sides agreed to discuss future collaboration in details in board meetings in 2022.

The EFP and the AAP have collaborated closely in recent years, notably with the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions, which drew up the new classification of these diseases and conditions, and Perio Workshop 2012 on periodontitis and systemic diseases.
