The European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) has launched its new Strategic Plan 2026-2030, reaffirming its commitment to scientific excellence, high-quality education, policy influence, and sustainable organisational growth. Building on the progress made under the 2021-2025 plan, the new roadmap aims to establish periodontal health as a cornerstone of global healthcare, ensuring better oral health for all.
"This strategic plan reflects the collective efforts of our federation to build on the foundations laid over the past decades," said EFP president Moritz Kebschull. "It is designed to ensure that the EFP remains at the forefront of periodontal science and education while expanding our impact on public health and policy."
A strategy rooted in progress and collaboration
The EFP’s new strategic plan was developed with significant input from key stakeholders across the federation, drawing on insights from member societies, thought leaders, and experts in the field. It sets out four main priorities:
- Scientific excellence: strengthening research initiatives, advancing clinical guidelines, and fostering global collaboration to support innovation in periodontology.
- Enhancing and innovating periodontal education: expanding educational programmes, raising certification standards, and developing new learning platforms to equip professionals for the challenges ahead.
- Strengthening policy influence and raising public awareness: positioning periodontal health as a critical element of systemic health, engaging policymakers, and increasing visibility through public campaigns.
- Internal growth and sustainability: ensuring financial sustainability, enhancing governance, and fostering stronger engagement with national societies and international partners.
"The success of this strategy will depend on the collaboration and dedication of the entire EFP community," said Nicola West, EFP secretary general. "By strengthening our internal capabilities and aligning efforts across our member societies, we will ensure that the EFP continues to grow and deliver real impact."
Looking ahead: Vision 2030
With ‘Better oral health for all’ as its guiding vision, the EFP aims to position periodontology as an integral part of healthcare systems worldwide. The strategic plan lays the groundwork for sustained progress, ensuring that oral health remains a priority in scientific research, professional education, and public health initiatives.
The EFP invites all members and stakeholders to engage in this new phase of development, reinforcing the federation’s leadership in periodontal health and beyond.
