Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming various fields, and the dental sector is no exception. Oral health companies are at the forefront of this revolution, introducing AI-driven tools that assist in diagnostics, treatment planning, and patient management. By leveraging machine learning and data analytics, clinicians can deliver more precise and personalised care, setting new standards for efficiency and patient outcomes in dentistry and periodontology.

In a series of interviews, the EFP is showcasing how partners are embracing AI innovations and driving advancements that will shape the future of periodontal care.

Tali Chackartchi, EFP elected officer, introduces the partner’s newsletter and shares her insights on the pivotal role AI will play in the evolution of the profession. Dr Chackartchi believes the EFP can serve as a central hub for establishing best practices, guiding the development of AI tools, and ensuring their responsible implementation. She highlights the importance of building machine learning systems on validated information while safeguarding patient privacy and ensuring algorithmic transparency. The EFP, she says, is well-positioned to aggregate data from diverse populations, enabling large-scale studies that will drive innovation in periodontal care.

Drawing from her experience with big data and AI, Chackartchi emphasises that while AI offers tremendous potential, it must be used judiciously. "Technology should serve to support - not replace - our expertise. The responsibility to our patients must always remain at the forefront of these advancements," she underlines.

Monique Danser, EFP treasurer acknowledged the importance of collaboration: “The EFP is proud to work with our partners - leaders in AI and dental care – to help bring innovative technologies to life. Together, through these partnerships, we can continue to set new standards in dental education and practice, ensuring that both clinicians and patients benefit from the cutting-edge tools of tomorrow."
