Categories:Communication, National Activities
The French Society of Periodontology and Oral Implantology (SFPIO) has given its support to a new quarterly magazine for general dentists.
The aim of the magazine, Parodontologie et Implantologie Orale, un nouveau regard (Periodontology & Oral Implantology, a new look) is to expand dentists’ knowledge about periodontology and oral implantology and increase the influence of the discipline.
Articles in the first issue cover topics including:
Orthodontic therapy and plastic surgery.
Immediate single implants and the management of a vertical bone defect.
Nicotine dependency and the severity of periodontitis.
A systematic review on implantoplasty for the treatment of peri-implantitis.
The new classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions.
Anti-Covid vaccines and thrombosis.
A review of article in the international press.
The magazine’s editor-in-chief is Virginie Monnet-Corti, professor and head of the department of periodontology at Aix Marseille University and the French perio society’s EFP delegate.
In an editorial in this first issue, she writes that “the periodontium is at the heart of health” and that “periodontology is – or should be – at the centre of all treatment plans, simple or complex, of the dental surgeon and health professional."
Explaining the objectives of the magazine, Prof Monnet-Corti said: "Our main objective is to maintain and improve periodontology and oral implantology skills to best ensure the care necessary for the well-being of our patients. Reading the publication allows us to carry out part of our continuous education. The way we have chosen is to share useful and relevant clinical and practical data between peers based on the latest scientific data.”
Topics due to be covered in future issues include:
An interview with Professor Philippe Bouchard on the Economist Intelligence Unit report Time to take gum disease seriously: The societal and economic impact of periodontitis.
Infertility and periodontal disease.
Multidisciplinary management of a complex case concerning the maxillary anterior aesthetic zone.
Regeneration of a periodontal lesion using a minimally invasive surgical approach.
The new classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions: Stage I, grades A, B, and C. Clinical cases.
The SFPIO also publishes the magazine Objectif Paro, aimed at periodontists. The latest issue has just been published and includes articles about patients with diabetes, Gum Health Day 2021, EuroPerio10, and the SFPIO’s congresses and activities.
Objectif Paro is published every four months and the society plans to publish a French/English issue in June 2022 for Europerio10.
