Gum Health Day 2019: Lebanon – activities on campus and at commercial centre

The Lebanese Society of Periodontology, which became one of the new international associate members of the EFP in March, participated enthusiastically in Gum Health Day 2019.

In the days running up to Gum Health Day on May 12, there was an interview on a local radio station about the awareness day and an article in the newspaper L’Orient-Le Jour.

On May 12, postgraduate students of periodontology and their teachers visited a commercial area in Mount Lebanon to promote gum-health awareness.

Over the following days, material was displayed at the medical campus of Saint Joseph University in Beirut, the Beirut Arab University, and the American University of Beirut. Promotional material such as toothpastes and toothbrushes were provided by Oral B, GlaxoSmithKline, and Buccotherm.

The animated video provided by the EFP was adapted with Arabic subtitles and displayed in the waiting areas of the universities’ dental-care centers.

In addition, board members of the Lebanese Society of Periodontology and postgraduate periodontology students from Saint Joseph University visited the maternity department at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Beirut. They distributed brochures on the importance of oral health for pregnant women and made a presentation on gum disease and its management to the healthcare providers of the gynecology and obstetrics department.
