Categories:Clinical Practice, Institutional
Periodontology 2000, the scientific journal edited by Anton Sculean (EFP president 2018-19, scientific chair of EuroPerio11 in 2025), has broken new ground by becoming the first journal in periodontology and implant dentistry to attain an impact factor above 10.
The publication achieved an impact factor of 12.239 in 2021, according to the recently published ratings from Clarivate Analytics, and is now ranked as the top publication among 92 scientific journals in dentistry, oral surgery and medicine.
“This is the clearest proof for the high quality and relevance of the published articles and the global impact of the contained information for our community,” said Prof. Sculean. “I am extremely grateful for the invaluable work and support of the guest editors and the editorial board who made such a fantastic outcome reality.”
Professor and chair of the department of periodontology and head of research in the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Bern in Switzerland, Anton Sculean was appointed editor-in-chief of Periodontology 2000 in April 2021.
Published three times a year – in February, June, and October – Periodontology 2000 offers monographs on important topics in periodontology and implant dentistry and is aimed at periodontists and general dentists with an interest in periodontology. Each issue is prepared by a guest editor, working closely with the editor-in-chief.
Over the years, Periodontology 2000 and the EFP’s monthly scientific publication Journal of Clinical Periodontology (JCP) have always been among the top-rated journals in the sector. The publications are very different and are considered complementary rather than as competitors.
