One of the highlights of Gum Health Day 2020 on 12 May will be an educational session on Instagram Live, in which the awareness day’s coordinator Andreas Stavropoulos will explain how bleeding gums are a sign of gum disease.
This session is one of the various online events that the EFP and its affiliated national societies of periodontology are organising in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions on public events and movement.
The hope is that Gum Health Day will also help millions of people around the world to be aware of the role that gum health plays in their overall health.
Prof Stavropoulos and Reena Wadia, a member of the EFP communications team, will talk about why bleeding gums are a sign of gum disease, how they can be prevented, and the treatment needed to tackle them.
Aimed at the public as well as dental professionals, “Say NO to bleeding gums” on Instagram Live takes place at 16.00 (CET) on Tuesday 12 May.
The EFP encourages people to follow the federation on Instagram: @perioeurope, https://www.instagram.com/perioeurope/ and everybody is welcome to join.
“I believe that this year’s slogan, ‘Say NO to bleeding gums!’, indeed fulfils the aim of Gum Health Day as an awareness initiative for the general public about the importance of gum health,” said Andreas Stavropoulos.
“Bleeding gums is something that most of us can relate to, since most of us have experienced them at some stage of our life. The issue here is that bleeding gums are not normal – as many may believe – and one has to do something about it!”
