Morocco: focus on oral health and pregnancy
Categories:National Activities, Gum Health Day
The Moroccan Society of Periodontology and Implantology celebrated European Gum Health Day 2018 with a series of activities focused on oral health and pregnant women.
Using materials created by the EFP/Oral-B Oral Health & Pregnancy project, the society organised a conference for resident physicians in obstetrics and gynaecology.
The conference, carried out collaboration with the department of periodontology at the University of Casablanca, highlighted the importance of gum health to overall health and the impact of periodontal disease on pregnancy outcomes.
In a second activity, the society provided midwives with education about the importance of oral health and training on oral screening techniques. It noted that “midwives work in prenatal clinics and are in an ideal position to implement and direct educational programmes for expectant mothers.”
In addition, the society organised oral-hygiene instruction for pregnant women attending hospital maternity units.
