New-look Perio Insight magazine puts spotlight on genetics and highlights latest periodontal research
Categories:Perio Insight, Science
The summer edition of the EFP magazine Perio Insightis now available for downloading in pdf format from the EFP website.
The main article in this issue is an in-depth analysis of the state of current knowledge about the role of genetics in the aetiology of periodontal disease, written by Bruno G. Loos and Deon P.M. Chin, of the Academic Centre for Dentistry in Amsterdam.
These experts say that knowledge remains “disappointingly limited” but they point to promising lines of inquiry for researchers. They also explain that the phenotypes of aggressive periodontitis (AgP) and chronic periodontitis (CP) may not be as distinct as previously assumed because they share genetic and risk factors.
Issue 4 of Perio Insight also includes a report on the global call for action on periodontal diseases which has been supported by 50 international and national periodontal societies.
As well as offering articles, debates, and expert views on important topics in periodontal science and clinical practice, Perio Insight now includes a two-page round-up of research published recently in the EFP’s Journal of Clinical Periodontology(JCP).
Perio Insight is edited by Joanna Kamma for the Communications Committee, working in conjunction with the Scientific Affairs Committee and the Secretary General.
The EFP is pleased to announce that Perio Insight will now be published on a quarterly basis.
