Perio Master Clinic 2023: How can orthodontics be speeded up?
Categories:Clinical Practice, Events
Accelerated orthodontics offers benefits to both patients and clinicians and will be one of the topics tackled at next month’s Perio Master Clinic 2023 in Antwerp, Belgium.
The session on accelerated orthodontics, moderated by the event’s chair Peter Garmyn (Belgium), takes place on the afternoon of Saturday 4 March.
It starts with a presentation by maxillofacial surgeon Gustavo Giordani (Brazil) on surgical techniques to install miniplates as skeletal anchorage for orthodontic treatment. He will show how miniplates can offer the orthodontist better skeletal anchorage and will demonstrate step-by-step how they need to be surgically installed.
Then follows a duo lecture by orthodontist Carole Charavet (France) and periodontist Serge Dibart (USA) that will explore in depth the use of digitally planned piezoelectric surgery to accelerate orthodontic treatment.
They will describe a dynamic surgical procedure that combines navigated surgery with “piezocision”, a minimally invasive, periodontally accelerated orthodontic tooth-movement procedure that enables soft- and hard-tissue grafting can be performed at the same time to enhance the patient’s periodontal phenotype and prevent future mucogingival problems.
Professors Charavet and Dibart will explain how irrigation is increased because of the absence of a surgical splint and how this also enables intra-operative changes.
The session will be rounded off with the presentation of a clinical case by Pal Nagy (Hungary) that involves the use of periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO), an approach that combines surgical interventions with orthodontic tooth movement.
Perio Master Clinic 2023, on “The Perio-Ortho Synergy”, takes place at the Flanders Meeting & Convention Centre in Antwerp, Belgium, on March 3 and 4.
