Category:National Activities
The keynote speech at a two-day scientific meeting of the Czech Periodontology Society was given by Italian maxillofacial surgeon Mateo Chiapasco from the University of Milan.
Prof Chiapasco presented a step-by-step method for reconstructive surgery in the oral cavity, including the treatment of damage to hard and soft tissues and how to tackle significant bone defects. Techniques presented included augmentation using autogenous bone blocks, titanium meshes fixed by pins, the combination of autogenous grafts and xenografts, and the use of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF).
Other topics addressed at the “Periodontology Days” meeting, held at the tourist destination of the Seč dam in the Pardubice region on May 20-21, included PRF in implantology and periodontology, analgesics in dentistry, and providing dental treatment to children and adults with learning disabilities. There was also a tribute to the society’s former chair, Ivo Dřízhal, who died in December last year.
The Czech perio society’s next meeting will take place in October, with Mariano Sanz (former EFP secretary general and chair of the workshop committee) as guest speaker.
