Periodontal regeneration was the topic of the keynote lecture at the recent two-day scientific meeting of the Czech Society of Periodontology, which was given by Mariano Sanz, co-chair of the EFP Workshop Committee.
Prof Sanz, professor of periodontology at the Complutense University of Madrid, discussed regeneration to treat both periodontitis and peri-implantitis, focusing on conservative and surgical approaches.
He explained how the choice of method depends on the type of defect (whether suprabony or infrabony) and presented various options for regeneration including deproteinised bovine bone and the use of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF).
Other topics addressed in the Czech perio society’s “Periodontology Days” meeting, held in Brno on September 16 and 17, included periodontal patients with orthodontic problems, the management of soft tissues to reduce failure in implant and regenerative surgery, and diseases of the tongue.
The Czech Society of Periodontology’s next two-day scientific meeting will take place in Lipno in May 2023 with Italian periodontist Alberto Fonzar as guest speaker.
