University of Florence joins EFP-accredited postgraduate programmes in periodontology

The periodontology department of the University of Florence in Italy has become the latest institution to gain approval to teach the EFP-accredited postgraduate programme in periodontology.
The University of Florence, where the postgraduate programme is directed by Francesco Cairo, is the second Italian university to gain accreditation, following the University of Turin in 2017.
There are now 19 EFP-accredited universities in 12 counties:
- Belgium: Catholic University of Leuven (accredited in 2001), University of Liège (2016), Ghent University Hospital (2021).
- France: University of Strasbourg (2021), Paris-Diderot University/Rothschild Hospital (2012).
- Hong Kong: University of Hong Kong (2019).
- Ireland: Trinity College Dublin (2007).
- Israel: Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem (2003), Rambam University Hospital, Haifa (2008).
- Italy: University of Turin (2017), University of Florence (2022).
- Netherlands: Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (1998).
- Sweden: Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg (2000).
- Turkey: Yeditepe University, Istanbul (2005).
- United Kingdom: University College London Eastman Dental Institute (2000), King’s College London (2021).
Professors and second- and third-year students of the programmes gathered at the start of September in the ninth biennial EFP Postgraduate Symposium, held this year in Belgium.
