JCP editor calls for greater autism awareness

This time, I would like to use my forum to draw the attention of Perio Insight readers to something they would likely not expect from the editor-in-chief of the EFP’s Journal of Clinical Periodontology: I would like to remind everybody that April has been designated as World Autism Month, which began with the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. This year marks the 17th annual World Autism Awareness Day.

If anyone among your loved ones or in your broader social environment has been diagnosed with this condition, you may be aware of how misconceptions about autism – and the exclusion of autistic people because of ignorance or prejudice – affect them and their families.

I encourage every one of us, as members of the healthcare team, to get educated and involved.
